Jay
Śmiejczak

I’m Jarek „Jay” Śmiejczak, a software developer living in Wrocław, Poland. Photography is what I do when I’m not writing code — and somewhere along the way it became something more than a hobby. It’s become the way I see.

Photography is my language of expression and a visual life journal.

Streets are where I feel most at home with a camera. I’m drawn to the quiet and the candid — the unguarded moment, the geometry of a shadow, the story nobody else stopped to notice. Documentary photography appeals to me because at its core it’s about observation, about slowing down long enough to actually look.

My approach tends toward the minimalistic and the introspective. I’m aware of the photographers I admire — Moriyama’s grain, Winogrand’s curiosity and Schaller’s mood — but I’m less interested in following a lineage than in finding my own voice. What I’m really after, frame by frame, is something harder to name: an emotion, a feeling, a truth that only a photograph can hold.

I’m happy to share part of my soul with you. Enjoy, and take care!
